Bio
Pamela Cotton, Ph.D.: President of Mindful Resilience Consulting, LLC.
I am a trainer, coach, and author in the areas of mindfulness, resilience, and self-compassion. My approach to teaching is focused on practice and integrating a mindful approach to living in the everyday world. I teach formal beginning mindfulness classes and also classes integrating mindfulness and self-compassion into different areas of life and resilience development. My classes often include how to work with the emotions that can arise during practice, and I may also include principles of aikido (a Japanese martial art) so that students can have an embodied experience to help ground the learning.
As a mindfulness-based coach, I help people deal effectively with personal and professional challenges, including work issues unique to women. My approach includes helping people access the strengths they already have and develop additional practical tools to handle change more effectively, make complex decisions, and meet interpersonal challenges. I help clients set clear goals and stay focused in the work, while encouraging the self-compassion everyone deserves. With a warm and engaging style, my approach is practical and action oriented.
I began my career as a psychologist in private practice, specializing in working with professional women. I now focus on helping others become their best, using the practice of mindfulness, and learning to use life challenges as opportunities for increased resilience development. I have written several books, including Mindful Resilience: Navigating the Labyrinth of Change in Times of Challenge and Compassion in Leadership. I have studied contemplative practices in several traditions, maintain my own mindfulness practice, and value my own personal and spiritual development.
