Bio
My mindfulness practices of aikido/tai chi) and meditation date back to the late 1970s and have been blessed to have had many outstanding teachers and been part of many wonderful communities (sanghas, dojos, etc) along the way.
I am a recently retired elementary/middle school principal and have brought mindfulness practices and principles to thousands of students, staff, families throughout my 35+ years in public and private school settings. My professional work has also included coaching school and other leaders.
I am a lead teacher at Two Rock Aikido Dojo in my hometown of Petaluma (San Francisco Bay Area). My experience includes trips abroad to bridge/ build friendship and connection through this martial art of harmony and reconciliation.
My doctoral research through USF's School of Education/Organizational Leadership involved studying ways students experience respectful and caring relationships and how schools promote this. My research, experience and mindfulness practices have helped me serve others in cultivating a sense of connection and belonging, resourcefulness and resilience, and engaged learning. Additionally, I am a member and facilitator with TEL (Transformative Educational Leadership), a group that integrates mindfulness, social emotional learning and equity work in schools.
Curiosity, creativity, thirst for learning, appreciation of beauty, and desire for connection are threads and through-lines that have guided my personal and professional endeavors.
Lastly (but not leastly), I am proud parent to two adult children and husband, and live in beautiful Sonoma County in northern CA.
