I have an MFA in creative nonfiction, and I've taught at the university level for 18 years, but am making a transition at this time. This sharpens my relationship to change and impermanence! I'm very interested in finding ways to incorporate mindfulness into social justice work, and I've become increasingly convinced that mindfulness is necessary to avoid burn out and to keep love front and center when analyzing and encountering discrimination and oppression. With Liz Wuerffel, I've co-directed the Welcome Project (https://welcomeproject.valpo.edu/), which is an online, first-person story collection. (If you're familiar with StoryCorps, we sit squarely in that tradition.) This project has taught me how powerful and multi-faceted the practice of listening can be. My work interviewing, editing and facilitating includes many skills that I've honed in mindfulness.
