SUMMARY:half-day metta retreat with Konda Mason
DESCRIPTION:Stress\, anxiety\, uncertainty\, political unrest\, ecological grief\, are just a few of the forces of today’s world that leave us exhausted and out of balance — giving rise to emotions\, thoughts\, and behaviors we know are unskillful. But there is an antidote. \n \nIn traditional Buddhist psychology\, metta (loving-kindness) is specifically categorized as an antidote — a direct prescription for neutralizing ill-will\, anger\, and hatred by shifting our underlying mental states\, much the way a physical antidote neutralizes a toxin. Metta is incompatible with anger and fear. It widens our perspective and keeps us from losing sight of our shared humanity. \n \nJoin us for this half-day metta retreat with Konda Mason to reconnect with your heart and with this philosophy of goodwill — one that science\, too\, recognizes as a health benefit. The session will include sitting periods and talks on the Metta Sutta\, how metta relates to the Brahmaviharas\, and how to radiate metta toward different categories of people\, and out into the world. \n \nWe need metta now more than ever\, to counteract a chronic modern stress that can feel relentless. This half-day break is for you\, regardless of your experience with metta practice — you’ll be held in Konda’s deep wisdom and the care of a supportive sangha. \n \nThis session is from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm ET;  the Zoom link is here.  Times may be modified slightly closer to the session; all times in ET \n \n10:30 Welcome\, dharmette and guided sit  \n11:15 Stretch/Break \n11:30 Dharmette and guided Sit \n12:15 Walking/Meal break \n12:45 Dharma talk \n1:15 	  Guided sit  \n2:00   Discussion/Q&A \n2:30   End \n \nMore about Konda \n \nKonda Mason is a social entrepreneur\, eco-spiritual thought leader\, mindfulness teacher\, and justice advocate working at the intersection of social and financial justice and planetary healing. Konda was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism in 1982. Her love for vipassanā began in 1996\, working with Jack Kornfield at the Vallecitos Retreat Center. She has taught at Spirit Rock since 1997\, starting as a yoga teacher. Konda’s Dharma training includes the East Bay Meditation Center Commit to Dharma program\, Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader and she is a graduate of the 2020 Spirit Rock Teacher Training program. Konda teaches daylongs\, retreats and workshops. \nPlease click the link below to RSVP for this event. \nhttps://mmtcpalumni.org/events/

SUMMARY:Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Facing Trauma in a Changing World \nAn international TSM sangha \n \nLet’s explore how trauma shows up in our communities online and in person and the skillful means that we need as TSM teachers and/or facilitators to be of help in stormy days. \n“Freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves\,” Thich Nhat Hanh. \n \nThis sangha provides a grounded and safe space to be present with your peers who share one simple yet profound goal: Peace in every Step (á la Thich Nhat  Hanh). Let us reclaim our deep listening and deep seeing into shared humanity. Let us discuss cross cultural sensitivities at the junction of trauma and mindfulness. Let us recenter\, inquire and clarify what resources may be best to offer to our communities.   \n  \nMay this space be a home base for kindness\, curiosity and inspiration amidst the chaos. \n \nWe will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month @ 11:00 am ET USA\, which is \n\n\n5:00 pm in Warsaw\, Poland \n\n\n6:00 pm in Jerusalem\, Israel/Palestine \n\n\n7:00 pm in Abu Dhabi\, Emirates \n\n\n  \n\n\n11:00 am in Washington DC\, USA \n\n\n4:00 pm in London\, UK \n\n\nPlease use the conversion app for your time zone\, respectively.

SUMMARY:Mentor-led Sangha | Rebecca Hines
DESCRIPTION:Led by MMTCP Mentors\, these sessions offer a place for you to bring your personal practice and/or  teaching questions and to be in sangha with alumni peers.  \n \nIn each session\, mentors will offer a short talk\, lead a reflective or practice exercise and then offer guidance and wisdom for any questions you have  – much like we had in peer groups.   \n \nThis session is led by Rebecca Hines and is from 7 – 8:30 pm ET;  the Zoom link is here \n \nPlease note: these sessions are not recorded. Now more than ever we need to be in community and though we can’t be together in person\, please join us live for this valuable community. \n \nMore about Rebecca \n \n \n. \nRebecca Hines lives with deep appreciation for the healing power of awareness available right here in our bodies\, in every moment\, that opens up space for greater freedom\, choice\, presence\, and grace. The heart of her practice is creating continuity of awareness from “on the cushion” to “off the cushion”—a clear path for continual exploration of dancing with life—the dance of work-life balance\, relationships\, health challenges\, aging\, and bringing wise action to the challenges facing the world. \nShe discovered vipassana meditation in 2000 with Tara Brach and started teaching MBSR in 2007. As a lifelong learner\, she has benefited from a range of trainings to support her understanding and practice of these precious teachings including Spirit Rock’s Heavenly Messengers—Awakening Through Illness\, Aging\, and Death program and Year to Live program\, and numerous Nonviolent Communication (NVC) trainings and retreats. She holds a master’s in health science from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health\, a BA from Wellesley College in psychology\, and certification in holistic health counseling. \nPlease click the link below to RSVP for this event. \nhttps://mmtcpalumni.org/events/

SUMMARY:Seven Inner Treasures: Cultivating the Awakening Factors
DESCRIPTION:Deepening Dharma Series  \n \nIn this six-week course\, we’ll explore an important teaching known as the awakening factors with Regina Flanigan \n \nBuddhist teachings describe these seven qualities as priceless treasures because they are human capacities that\, when recognized\, appreciated\, and cultivated\, support well-being and the unfolding of awakening. \nTogether\, we’ll explore how to know when they are present or absent\, how they help us respond wisely to the mind’s balance between being energized and calm\, ways of strengthening them\, and their relationship to what are known as the hindrances. \n \nEach 1½-hour session will include a meditation based on some aspect of the seven factors\, a brief Dharma talk\, and space for reflection\, sharing\, and discussion. A simple\, concise study guide will be offered for each session.  Additional integration sessions may also be added. \n \nTo register and for information on each session\, please click here  \nMore about Regina \nRegina has spent over 25 years exploring the path of human healing and awakening. She earned her master’s degree in counseling from Johns Hopkins University\, where she began integrating Western psychological approaches with Eastern contemplative traditions. Her path has been rooted primarily in the Insight Meditation tradition and nondual wisdom traditions. \n \nIn 2019\, Regina completed the two-year inaugural Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP)\, led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She was mentored by Hugh Byrne at Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW)\, where she is now a teacher and continues to support the life of the Center for Mindful Living Sangha. \n \nRegina has completed additional immersive trainings through the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies\, as well as a nine-month teacher training program exploring Nibbana with Ven. Dhammadipa.
