SUMMARY:Wise Engagement and Relationship with AI | Workshop with Lars Sandved-Smith
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness is heart-centered practice\, rooted in human presence\, lineage\, and safety.  Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both challenges and opportunities for more mindfulness in our world but there are also technical\, ethical\, and spiritual implications.  \n  \nJoin us for this informative session intended as an orientation for mindfulness practitioners and teachers of  today’s AI landscape. We’ll cover many relevant\, and timely\, topics in this workshop\, including:  \n\n\nWhy AI matters as a “technology of mind” shaping attention\, intention\, and view \n\n\nWhat the current AI systems actually are and where they’re heading \n\n\nBuddhist frames for understanding AI — e.g. as a karmic amplifier\, as a shift from attention economy to attachment economy\,  \n\n\nPractical paths for wise engagement\, from conscientious objection to intentional use to active stewardship \n\n\nWe are at an evolutionary turning point where we are participating with AI\, whether we want to or not\, and it is no longer just a tool we use.  Even these topics will just scratch the surface so it is important for us to become a little more AI “literate”.  \n \nThis workshop is from 12 – 3 pm ET;  the Zoom link is here \n \nMore about Lars \nLars Sandved-Smith is a computational neuroscientist and meditation teacher with a background in technology and M&A. He is excited about the potential for good in emerging technologies and advances in our scientific understanding of meditation. Lars is currently a doctoral researcher at the Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies developing computational models of meditation using the active inference framework in collaboration with Karl Friston’s lab at UCL. He also founded Neurons of Potential\, teaching meditation to businesses and leadership teams through the lens of the latest scientific understandings of practice. \n \nIn 2014 he received a master’s in Physics and Philosophy from the University of Manchester where his interest in understanding the mind’s ability to interpret reality began. This interest continued to develop during his career in technology consulting at KPMG and Deloitte and eventually led Lars to meditation\, yoga and neuroscience. An MMTCP alumni\, Lars’ goal is to contribute to the growing scientific understanding of mental well-being and explore modern approaches to contemplative practice.

SUMMARY:Brahmaviharas: Asking Vital Questions
DESCRIPTION:from my recent Post… \nIn this meeting we will catch up\, share insights about life’s many blessings and challenges. \nThe Dharma has proven very helpful to my 1:1 clients\, colleagues in diverse sanghas\, my personal life and that of family members.  I hear my insights and teachings echoed and illustrated in writings\, thoughts\, actions\, despite the awareness factor not always being activated consciously by others. How do we manifest Mindfulness? How do we become more aware and engaged with the process so that we can call on\, use and inspire it if/when needed and when not needed?  These are facets that we can explore\, in whichwe can find new and deeper meaning\, together\, in dyads and individually. \nI hope that you will join me for the entire session. I’d truly enjoy and appreciate your presence and insights. \n  \nLinda HIRSCH is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.\nTopic: Linda HIRSCH’s Zoom Meeting\nTime: Jul 29\, 2026 12:00 PM-1:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83658031897?pwd=M27DVCuzI2DLphBggJSxjEX6ERq4vy.1\nMeeting chat link\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/launch/jc/83658031897\nMeeting ID: 836 5803 1897\nPasscode: 887997

SUMMARY:Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness Teachers
DESCRIPTION:Facing Trauma in a Changing World \nAn international TSM sangha \n \nLet’s explore how trauma shows up in our communities online and in person and the skillful means that we need as TSM teachers and/or facilitators to be of help in stormy days. \n“Freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves\,” Thich Nhat Hanh. \n \nThis sangha provides a grounded and safe space to be present with your peers who share one simple yet profound goal: Peace in every Step (á la Thich Nhat  Hanh). Let us reclaim our deep listening and deep seeing into shared humanity. Let us discuss cross cultural sensitivities at the junction of trauma and mindfulness. Let us recenter\, inquire and clarify what resources may be best to offer to our communities.   \n  \nMay this space be a home base for kindness\, curiosity and inspiration amidst the chaos. \n \nWe will meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month @ 11:00 am ET USA\, which is \n\n\n5:00 pm in Warsaw\, Poland \n\n\n6:00 pm in Jerusalem\, Israel/Palestine \n\n\n7:00 pm in Abu Dhabi\, Emirates \n\n\n  \n\n\n11:00 am in Washington DC\, USA \n\n\n4:00 pm in London\, UK \n\n\nPlease use the conversion app for your time zone\, respectively.

SUMMARY:Anger: From Poison to Presence | Online Retreat with Amma Thanasanti
DESCRIPTION:Many long-term meditators find that anger remains one of the more difficult experiences to meet fully with wisdom and freedom. We develop the capacity to observe it\, to create space around it\, to watch it arise and pass — and still\, familiar patterns in how we relate to it can continue returning. The same places we get caught. The same sense that something more is needed. \n \nFor many practitioners\, deeper awareness does not immediately dissolve anger patterns\, but instead reveals them more clearly. \n \nThis daylong workshop-style retreat\, led by Amma Thanasanti\,  takes that experience seriously — and uses it as the entry point. \nWe will work directly with anger both as an object of practice and as a source of information and insight: its different forms\, its intelligence\, and what lives beneath it. Through meditation\, teaching\, and structured inquiry\, we will follow what awareness reveals — and stay honest about what that points toward. \n \nThe day is built in three arcs. We begin by building ground — resourcing the nervous system and honoring what practice has already developed in us. From that stability we move into direct exploration of anger: its many expressions\, its weight\, and what lives beneath it. The final arc is integration — bringing what has been seen into relationship with practice and daily life\, and closing the container with steadiness and care. \n \nThis will not be a processing space or a substitute for therapy. It is a practice day — grounded\, embodied\, and oriented toward deeper clarity\, discernment\, and presence. \nWe will share more details about the day’s schedule ahead of the session. The full session will be from 11 am – 6 pm ET but there will be plenty of breaks.   \n \nPlease Note:   \nThis retreat is not the right container for you if: \n• You are currently finding it difficult to regulate in daily life \n• You are looking for a space to process deep emotional wounds or traumatic memories — this is a practice day\, not a therapeutic space \n• You are in an early stage of trauma recovery where working with anger may be activating without sufficient support in place \n• You are not yet connected to a therapist or support system and sense this retreat may be a substitute for one \n \nParticipant Guidelines \nThis day works with material that can be activating. Participants are encouraged to stay within their own capacity throughout. Backing off\, slowing down\, or choosing not to engage with an inquiry prompt is understood as wise and skillful practice — not failure. \nPlease click the link below to RSVP for this event. \nhttps://mmtcpalumni.org/events/

SUMMARY:Mentor-led Sangha | Carole Melkonian
DESCRIPTION:Led by MMTCP Mentors\, these sessions offer a place for you to bring any and all of your personal practice and teaching questions and to be in sangha with alumni peers. In each session\, mentors will offer a short talk\, lead a reflective or practice exercise and then offer guidance and wisdom for any questions you have  – much like we had in peer groups.   \n \nThis session is led by Carole Melkonian and is from 7 – 8:30 pm ET;  the Zoom link is here \n \n(This session was previously announced as being led by Rebecca Hines but due to a conflict she will join us again on October 20)  \n \nPlease note: these sessions are not recorded. Now more than ever we need to be in community and though we can’t be together in person\, please join us live for this valuable community. \n \nMore About Carole  \nCarole Melkonian has been practicing meditation for decades. She draws inspiration most deeply from the nuns and monks in the Forest Tradition of Luang Por Chah and is especially drawn to the teachings of Ajahn Sucitto and former nun Willa Thaniya Reid\, with whom she continues to study. \n \nShe completed the two-year Spirit Rock/IMS Community Dharma Leader Program and in 1997 attended the MBSR training course with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli. \nIn addition to being an MMTCP mentor\, her current work and practice include teaching mindfulness and loving kindness meditation programs at hospitals and a senior center\, and. She also works in hospice as an RN and Licensed Acupuncturist where for the past 15+ years\, she has accompanied many patients and families at this end-of-life transition. \n \nIn her meditation practice\, she emphasizes embodiment\, metta/loving friendliness\, and energy-based body work (qi gong and yoga). To the ebbs and flows of daily life\, she directly applies the liberating teachings of the Buddha. She encourages bringing faith\, curiosity and kindness to meditation practice and life.  She lives with her partner Thomas in Portland\, Oregon. \n \n \nPlease click the link below to RSVP for this event. \nhttps://mmtcpalumni.org/events/

SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Nonviolent Communication
DESCRIPTION:In September’s monthly meeting\, we will continue to explore the use of NVC tools and practices to lean into conflict engagement\, following on Kazu Haga’s Considerations for Conflict Engagement (the recording of his June MMTCP-AA workshop is available under “recordings of past events” on the alumni association homepage).  This month I’d like to explore Kazu’s consideration to “acknowledge multiple truths” as a follow-on from to my “nugget” post earlier this month.  We welcome participation regardless of your experience with NVC and love to see both familiar faces and new ones!  Please join us if you can!

SUMMARY:Brahmaviharas
DESCRIPTION:NEW POST ALERT! NEXT SESSION; Wed.\, Sept. 30\, noon-1:30 pm ET. Please note the ET time zone and plan to stay for the entire\, 90-min. session\, \n~~~~ \nFall is coming and I am savoring memories of jumping into huge piles of colorful\, crunchy leaves. The earthy aroma\, rustling sound\, scratchy texture and even the dusty taste are imprinted deeply in my brain. How do these memories reflect the Brahmaviharas? How do your memories affect your perception of life? What is real\, what is imagined or being transformed by the flow of perception? Did Fall mean falling in or out of love\, feeling empathetic joy or deep sorrow\, expressing compassion or frustration…embracing amazing feelings of equanimity or fragile imbalance? Let’s explore some deeper\, Dharma waters.  \n~~~~ \nBring your pen\, journal and curiosity to the next session.
